Michael J. Wright is the Co-founder and President of Power Grid Engineering; a leading electrical engineering firm that specializes in designing, building and commissioning substations. Wright has 20 years of experience in the utility industry with a focus on operations management and leadership. As the chief of culture, he supports and guides all of company’s initiatives to maintain a positive work environment and contribute to a healthy and consistent growth through people, process and passion. Wright’s strategic vision is leading the organization to positive places with commitment to a culture of quality and focus on safety.
Since founding PGE, Wright has been responsible for major milestones alongside his partners that led to the growth of the company with over 300 employees with four offices servicing projects over 21 states. Under Wright’s leadership, Power Grid Engineering is committed to being an industry-leader and setting the bar of quality across the nation with team members who share his vision and mission and to make a positive impact in the industry today and every day.
Prior to founding PGE, Wright served as an Adjunct Professor at Valencia College while working at Progress Energy (now Duke Energy.) He worked in the engineering department until 2001 when he moved to the Relay Construction department offering support to the field relay techs on construction projects. In 2005, he accepted a position in the Protection and Control department as one of two Lead Engineers who were tasked with overseeing all technical functions of the department. His role at Duke Energy ensured quality control of all projects, setting policy, planning future projects, consulting best engineering practices, defining standards and leading the teams to constant improvement of the engineered designs.
Wright earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Florida and a Master of Business Administration from Rollins College and is a registered Professional Engineer in 21 states. He is an industry-advocate and he frequently engages at inter-company, industry and academic events to represent the company and share best practices to contribute to the industry knowledge.
Wright serves on the External Advisory Board for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Florida he was formerly on the Electrical and Technology Board for Valencia Community College.
He is Florida native, born in Jacksonville, educated in Gainesville and has worked his entire professional career in Central Florida. With a strong commitment to the community, Wright serves on the Board of Director at his church and he is a foster parent. In 2006, Wright married his wife, Heather and the couple now shares their life in Sanford, FL with their four children; Mia, Monty, Jack and Brant.
